The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN), in cooperation with the Royal Administration for Environmental Protection and Tourism at the Public Security Directorate, Saturday began operating surveillance drones in th76 e reserves of Dana and Mujib Biospheres.

The aerial surveillance launch is part of the celebrations of the centennial of the founding of the Jordanian state, which the RSCN considers as an opportunity to continue work, enhance achievement and uphold the values of leadership, creativity and partnership among the state’s institutions and agencies to protect biodiversity and national capabilities, it said in a statement.

Dana Reserve Manager Amer Rafoua said that the use of surveillance drones comes within the strategic partnership between the society and the Royal Administration for Environmental Protections with the aim of protecting and controlling biodiversity, curbing attacks on reserves and poaching and implementing technical studies.

“The presence of drones will enhance surveillance of large areas of the two reserves, employ modern technology and techniques to serve biological diversity and deal with environmental conditions efficiently and competently,” he said.

He pointed out that the RSCN works within a philosophy of partnership with all stakeholders, foremost of which is the Public Security Directorate, to preserve biodiversity and spread environmental awareness of nature protection issues among social groups.
