Iraq’s Council of Representatives Sunday passed a bill granting Palestinian residents in Iraq full “citizenship rights,” except the right to vote and to hold citizenship.
An Iraqi source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the newly enacted law would grant Palestinians living in Iraq full citizenship rights, especially Palestinians who have been living in the country for over 10 years.
He highlighted the law excluded the rights to cast a vote, run for parliament and hold Iraqi citizenship to protect the Palestinians’ legitimate right of return.
Official reports estimate the number of Palestinians in Iraq at around 3,500, who mostly live in Baghdad and Kurdistan.
